Stars & Stripes Pie
Of course, I "had" to do this pie for the Fourth of July! My husband has an archaeological dig this weekend (out of doors and safely spaced) and everyone gets together at the end of the day to share a meal (again, out of doors, safely spaced). So I thought this berry pie might be a fun contribution. I did not have tiny star cookie cutters on hand, which is what the recipe recommends, so I used the cutters I have, which is kinda artsy, right?!
Not sure why the stars did not crust as well as the stripes. Guessing maybe because I used frozen (Wyman's) blueberries, since blueberries are not ripe in Maine yet. So, I think the moisture of the berries soaked the crust. Since the rest of the crust on the pie was uniformly browned, it was time to pull the pie out. It is cooling in the fridge as I type! You'll want to ask me on the Fourth how it tasted...
